Location, location, location …

Nestled on the edge of town and close to many “must-do” activities you are perfectly positioned to take advantage of the close proximity to a famous local institution “The Burleigh”, to tank up on a gourmet pie and Havana coffee (a 5-minute stroll down the road), then hop across to Brayshaw Heritage Park where you will be mesmerized by all things heritage! Highlights include its Wine Exhibition, Te Pokohiwi 1250 A.D. (Wairau Boulder Bank archaeology exhibiton), the Victorian Rooms and the remarkable pottery collections of Elizabeth Lissaman (historic) and Fran Maguire (contemporary). Step outside, into the rest of Brayshaw Heritage Park, and you are surrounded by vintage cars, vintage machinery, and of course Beavertown, a replica street scene. https://www.marlboroughmuseum.org.nz/

If you are here on a Sunday, the Farmers’ Market at A & P Park on the corner is well-worth a visit with your market bag in hand. Also on offer on a Sunday, you can catch a train from the Burleigh Riverside railway station. The tracks take you along the Taylor River into “Beaver town” - a lovely ride for a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Heading up the road the other way - 10 to 15 mins easy walking - takes you to the Aviation Heritage Museum for a revisit of WWI and WWII aviation history. https://www.omaka.org.nz/

Across the road from this world class attraction is the Omaka Classic Cars Collection showcasing more than one hundred cars built in the second half of the 20th century. Take a break at the The Omaka Cafe where you can get your coffee fix made with locally roasted CPR coffee beans and sit down to a light lunch chosen from the freshly-made cabinet food.

If you are feeling more energetic, and fancy some retail therapy or culture, the Taylor River walkway, just over the Burleigh Bridge, takes you on a gentle meandering journey into town for some retail therapy, art appreciation or a café lunch. Thomas’s is a local institution worth checking out: https://www.thomass.co.nz/
